What's in a Crate: Revealing The Hidden Layers of Fine Art Packing
The Johnson Collection invites visitors to a behind-the-scenes demonstration at TJC Gallery during the exhibition What’s in a Frame?
The Johnson Collection is answering one of our visitors’ most prevalent inquiries at the February Spartanburg ArtWalk: How is art shipped and stored? The educational program will reveal behind-the-scenes knowledge of art handling— showing the custom-crafted hardware, travel frame, and suspension system utilized to safely transport works of art.
On Thursday, February 17 at 6:30pm, TJC Gallery will host a gallery talk led by TJC staff. A part of the monthly Spartanburg ArtWalk, the event is free and open to the public. Following covid protocol, the Johnson Collection kindly requests that visitors wear masks.
“The frame is the soul of the painting.” – Thomas Cole
This demonstration coincides with TJC Gallery’s current exhibition, What’s in a Frame? which reveals an often-overlooked art form and celebrates the frame in all its shapes, sizes, and materials. The show is on view until March 25, 2022, at 154 W. Main St. in downtown Spartanburg, South Carolina, open Wednesday through Friday from 12 – 4 PM.
