Sparkle City Mini Putt

In 2015 HUB-BUB AiR, Robin Schwartzman, decided the final product of her residency would be a 9-hole mini golf course in the heart of downtown Spartanburg. With generous donations from local Spartanburg businesses, this was made a reality and the Sparkle City Mini-Putt, a free-to-play course stands between Main and Broad Streets just north of Church Street.

In an innovative format, HUB-BUB partnered with local businesses to make playing the course simple and free. Those looking to play simply visit one of the five downtown businesses that hold putters, balls, and scorecards and leave a picture ID to rent the items. Players are also welcome to bring their own putters and balls to the course.

The five businesses that rent materials to play are:

Fr8yard
Hub City Scoops
Paisley Paw
The Local Hiker
Little River Coffee Bar

HUB BUB was acquired by Chapman Cultural Center in 2018 and continues to manage Sparkle City Mini Putt in conjunction with its community partners.

This project was made possible by the generous contributions of Hub-Bub, Johnson Development Associates, Inc., The City of Spartanburg, McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, Clayton Construction Company, Inc., Blackwood Associates, Inc., Lavender Smith & Associates, Inc., Parks Engineering Associates, Inc., Blanchard CAT Rental, Parker’s Carpet One, and Roebuck Wholesale Nursery and Landscaping, Inc. All the painting of the mural, curbs and obstacles was done in collaboration with local artists Aimee Wise, Russell Bannan, Eli Blasko. Metal fabrication of obstacles was done by local metal workers Josh Moore and Kevin Belue of K Riley Designs. Bronze casting was done by Minneapolis-based artist Yousif Del Valle.
