Acknowledging the talented student artists that won our recent Youth Art Month event reminds us to encourage you to be on the lookout for the unique gifts and talents your children may express this summer. Identifying your child’s talents during the break can help you nuture those talents when the new school year begins.

Here are 3 suggestions to keep in mind this summer:

1. Explore different extracurricular activities for your child: Our Summer Camps are just one exmple of resources that allow your children to try different activities without prematurely locking in to one. While exploring multiple activities is a good thing, make sure your child is not over-committed and still has time to be a kid.

2. Observe your child at play: Our personal gifts and talents are usually things we enjoy doing. A child will act and play in ways that may reflect differing natural, individual interests, intelligence, and abilities.

3. Your best resource- Talk to your child: Talk to your children about what they like to do and about what they think they are good at. Don’t discount the fact that your children may actually know their talents better than anyone else. If anything, they may at least know their own likes and dislikes.

The Chapman Cultural Center is a one-stop shop for exciting summer day camps — giving parents the peace of mind that their children will be safe and educated while giving students remarkable stories to share.
