Spring Classes at the Spartanburg Youth TheatreĀ

Spartanburg Youth Theatre (SYT) will offer several classes and workshops this spring for students (K4-12), beginning the week of February 18. Highlights include a musical theatre class focused on the music of the wildly popular Broadway shows Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, and a class for K4-K5 grade students where they will learn the basics of teamwork and how to perform confidently in front of others while creating their own magical fairy tale.

2019 Spring Theatre Classes
K4-K5
STORYBOOK ADVENTURE
Wednesdays | Grades K4-K5 | 4:00-4:45pm | $90 | 10 weeks
Class enrollment: 12 maximum | 5 minimum
Transport yourself into the land of your favorite fairy tale! Through fun and creative play, you will learn the basics of teamwork and how to perform confidently in front of others while creating your own magical fairy tale. The fairy tales will come to life at the end of the semester for a fun and exciting show for your friends and family.
1ST-2ND GRADE
ACTING FOUNDATIONS
Tuesdays | Grades 1st-2nd | 4:00-5:15pm | $120 | 10 weeks Class enrollment: 16 maximum | 5 minimum
Are you interested in acting but not quite sure where to start? No problem! This class will build self-confidence while developing physical, vocal, and imaginative skills for the stage. You will leave the class with a strong foundation in stage and performance and a newfound sense of self-expression, ready for your final theatrical showcase for family and friends.
DETECTIVES, SPIES & VILLAINS
Thursdays | Grades 1st-2nd | 4:00-5:15pm | $120 | 10 weeks Class enrollment: 16 maximum | 5 minimum
There are strange happenings afoot, and we need your help to solve them! Become a spy, a detective, or the zany villain in this mystery adventure that you help write! You and your classmates will spend the semester developing characters and solving the mystery together, then presenting your mystery theatre piece in a final performance for your friends and family.. This class is recommended for children who have already taken a class with SYT or have equivalent experience.
3RD-5TH GRADE

MUSICAL THEATRE: Disney’s Descendants & ZOMBIES
Mondays | Grades 3rd-5th | 4:00-5:15pm | $120 | 10 weeks Class enrollment: 16 maximum | 5 minimum
It’s time to get out those dancing shoes and belt your favorite showtunes in this introductory musical theatre class. Set in the style of a musical revue, students will learn singing and dancing techniques through songs and choreography from the hit Disney Channel Original Movies Descendants and ZOMBIES.
6TH-9TH GRADE
IMPROV & COMEDY
Thursdays | Grades 6th-9th | 4:00-5:15pm | $120 | 10 weeks Class enrollment: 14 maximum | 5 minimum
This fun and fast-paced class will introduce you to the basics of improvisation and comedy, and give you fun tips and techniques to keep you on your toes. The class will end with a fun improv workshop and performance for friends and family.
MUSICAL THEATRE: Hamilton & Dear Evan Hansen
Wednesdays | Grades 6th-9th | 4:00-5:15pm | $120 | 10 weeks Class enrollment: 16 maximum | 5 minimum
This class will develop vocal technique, an advanced musical theatre dance vocabulary, stage presence, and collaborative skills while working toward a final class performance of songs and scenes from the hit Broadway musicals Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen.
9TH-12TH GRADE
ACTOR’S STUDIO
Mondays | Grades 9th-12th | 4:00-6:00pm | $180 | 12 weeks Class enrollment: 10 maximum | 5 minimum
For students who have had previous experience onstage, Actor’s Studio implements partnered scene work from staged plays and individual monologue work to further strengthen and develop your creative development and imaginative play.
The class performance will be outside of the normal class meeting time, on a date TBD. More details will be given once the class begins.
This class will meet weekly on Mondays for 12 weeks starting Monday, February 18, 2019. There will not be class the week of April 1-5, 2019. The final class will be on Monday, May 13, 2019.
