Tony®-Nominated Musical The Civil War Sweeps into The Spartanburg Little Theatre Jan. 16

January 07, 2015 | Press Releases

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — One hundred and fifty years after a divisive war rocked our nation, the diverse voices of Americans whose lives were forever changed by that conflict come vividly to life by The Spartanburg Little Theatre in The Civil War: The Musical. Opening January 16 and running for seven performances through January 25 at Chapman Cultural Center, The Civil War takes its audience on a heroic and heart-wrenching journey through time.

“The soulful, thought-provoking music weaves an extraordinary tapestry of life during this era,” Director and Spartanburg Little Theatre Executive Director Jay Coffman said. “The one hundred fiftieth anniversary of the war, which is currently being honored across the country, was the perfect opportunity for us to bring this story to life.”

The musical, which features contemporary American genres like country, rock, gospel, folk, and R&B, expresses a unique and modern perspective on this historical tragedy. Its songs explore the lives of the soldiers and leaders who fought in the war, the stories of the families they left behind, and the hopes and fears of the slaves whose freedom was at stake.  “What I love about this particular show is that it draws out so many different stories, and through its music asks each of us consider our own beliefs and understanding of freedom, honor and faith,” Coffman continued. “We hope our audiences leave The Civil War both entertained and enriched.”

Tickets for The Civil War can be purchased by calling Chapman Cultural Center’s box office at (864) 542-2787 or by ordering online at ChapmanCulturalCenter.org.  Tickets are $25 for adults, $24 for seniors and $17 for students.
